#MEAction Arrives in the Medieval Town of Med-Ed

Here’s a hearty hello from the Medieval Town of Medical Education!

Lords and Ladies,

We did it!… we got over $75,000 (£56,781) which means we have arrived at this new land on our Giving Adventure Map. I’m Laurie Jones, the Managering Elf, and I am going to tell you what awesome stalls await you at the Medieval Town of Medical Education.

This year our Wizard of Scientific and Medical Outreach, Jaime Seltzer, participated in talks with Urban Health, has given presentations about the importance of the patient voice at NIH-funded CRCs and gave a plenary talk at the Society to Improve Diagnosis in Medicine’s Annual Conference. Jaime has also helped shape a Project ECHO for Long COVID and ME. Project ECHO is a medical education initiative with small, interactive group learning, and larger talks that tens of thousands of doctors attend at once. This CDC funded initiative will run for three years and we have helped shape it together.  She’s magic, I tell you, but of course, her brand of magic took literal blood, sweat, and tears to make happen. The work isn’t easy, but it’s worth it.

We recently wrapped up our Postcard to Doctors campaign, but we’ve reached hundreds of US clinicians through this mighty effort. We have also worked hard on efforts to increase access to medical care in BIPOC communities.

We also designed outreach for #MEAction NY’s Continuing Medical Education Course on ME/CFS in the time of Long COVID for doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and social workers. #MEAction California, led by Art Mirin, worked with the Medical Board of California to release an article and an interview about Long COVID and ME in their July Newsletter! Both the interview and the article are the result of years of advocacy outreach.

Recently, #MEAction UK released their
Dear Doctor Campaign that has received praise both from patients and NICE.

#MEAction has prioritized medical education for years and we are looking forward to continuing the effort to educate clinicians and healthcare professionals about ME so that you get the care, treatment, and coordination that you deserve.

With $14,000 (£10,597) left to raise, we are so close to reaching the #MillionsMissing Castle. Thank you for hanging with us as we march to the finish line of our Giving Adventure. Help us reach the end!

Onward,
Laurie
