#MEAction is excited to announce our Severe ME Artist Project 2023— Gallery! The Severe ME Artist Project 2023 features work from those within the severe ME community and is in recognition of Severe ME Day on August 8th.
We had over 150 submissions, and we are blown away by this response – thank you!
This project was created with an idea to allow those with severe ME to share their artwork with the larger community and provide an opportunity to be SEEN! The work featured here includes pieces that were created both before and after people became severely ill.
We also want to acknowledge the grief that happens for those unable to practice their art due to illness and those who have had to change the way they practice their art.
On this page, you will find the Writers Gallery, a link to the video compilation, and the many art images submitted. There is a lot on this page, so please take your time and come back often!
*Severe ME Day on August 8th was started by the 25% group. We are grateful for their work and very eager to support artists in the severe ME community.

I am going to take my time to look at all of these as my health allows. I feel moved to see how many severely ill artists managed to take part and what an effort is behind each piece. I’m severe and I feel very much less alone seeing them but also the scale of the suffering breaks my heart. Thank you for creating this gallery.
Wow! Ayman, your work expresses to me, someone who also has severe ME, the loss of who we were before the disease took so much away from us. “I used to ___fill in the blank- (dance, play tennis, cook, laugh, etc.) We grieve the loss of who we were. The invisible illness becomes visible in your work.
These are all so inspirational and it makes me be proud to be a part of this community. Love to all of those who are living with this awful disease.
Wow! The quantity and variety of work submitted is amazing! It will take me a long time to even sample these but I wanted to thank MEAction for all the work it must have taken to organize this project, gather all the submissions, and put all the links on this website.
My name is Dorit Amit, from ISRAEL. I have CFS for over 25 years. I am an artist.
Talented, spectacular, gifted, artwork, from an amazing group of folks, who need more understanding and tolerance and compassion from the medical profession.
This work should be shown to a wide audience, just wish I had the contacts to broadcast this to the mainstream press globally.
Thank you for putting this together
I have suffered from ME for over 30 years now, I had a couple of remissions, but then in 1997 became bedridden and have remained so ever since. However, I have managed (with just my right hand and voice recognition software) to write four books, all of them autobiographical.
My first book, which took me 11 years to write and publish, is called “White Zulu” and I now have a YouTube video site on which I read out chapters of my book from the beginning. If you want to have a look, go to https://www.youtube.com/@whitezulu3793 where you will find all my videos, starting from the very beginning at the bottom. I keep them short – 20 minutes, so as not tax tired brains.
This is a breathtakingly deep and wonderful collection. Thank you so much, for sharing so much. The achievement is outstanding.
