We are pleased to share some updates with you about our “Frail & Furious” campaign to protect Medicaid for our community.

  • #MEAction has sent a letter to Dr. Mehmet Oz, who is the Administrator for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, urging him to recognize ME/CFS, Long COVID and other infection-associated chronic conditions as “medically frail” in order to be exempt from forthcoming, onerous Medicaid work requirements. Read the letter. #MEAction is campaigning for the HHS and States to recognize that these diseases are “serious, complex conditions,” so that our communities are not kicked off Medicaid health insurance, simply because we are too sick to fulfill the work requirements.

  • Join our Advocacy Director for an Ask Me Anything session about Medicaid! #MEAction’s Advocacy Director, Ben HsuBorger, will answer questions about our fight to protect Medicaid health insurance for our communities, and what individuals can do to keep their Medicaid.   Join us on Tuesday, May 5th at 3p.m. ET on #MEAction’s instagram.

  • Take immediate action to help protect Medicaid for our community! Sign our letter to HHS Secretary urging him to recognize people with ME/CFS and Long COVID as “medically frail. The HHS Secretary is issuing guidance in June, which will shape how states determine who qualifies as “medically frail.”

  • We’ve begun our state by state organizing to save Medicaid for our community. In March, we sent a letter to the Nebraska Medicaid Director with the same ask – for ME/CFS and Long COVID to be recognized as “medically frail” so our communities are exempt from these harmful work requirements. Nebraska just announced that it will start implementing Medicaid work requirements early, beginning May 1st, and its new policy does not include us in their list of exempt diagnoses. This doesn’t mean we’ve lost - it means we have to add momentum to our fight. (If you are interested in joining the fight to save Medicaid in your State, reach out to your state’s chapter here, or email info@meaction.net.)
