This has been a remarkable month for #MEAction and I wanted to share the news directly with you.
We are closer than ever to getting the ME/CFS Research Roadmap funded.
Building on the Congressional relationships we developed in May through our partnership with #NotJustFatigue, #MEAction met with six offices of members of the Labor-HHS Appropriations Subcommittee over the last two weeks to request $50 million in dedicated funding for the ME/CFS Research Roadmap. We have received a commitment from a key office that the entire Labor-HHS Subcommittee will review our language on the Roadmap. We do not have a guarantee, but this is absolutely our best shot, and we are staying in close contact with the offices that still have the power to make it happen.
None of this would be possible without the volunteers who have built contact lists, shared their stories in meetings, and helped strategize every next step. You know who you are. Thank you.
The Office of the Surgeon General is ready to work with us.
Last week, we met with the Office of the Acting Surgeon General as a direct result of our #MillionsMissing advocacy. The meeting was genuinely positive! The office is tasked with developing public health communications and they are open and receptive to developing communications on ME/CFS and other infection-associated chronic illnesses alongside us. This is a significant opening and we are following up with urgency.
The fight for Medicaid protections continues.
We are actively developing our next steps to protect our community from Medicaid work requirements. We are not letting up.
Here is how you can help right now.
There is still time to leave a public comment about Medicaid work requirements. You can use our template here:
Join our advocacy working group, which meets on Wednesdays. Sign up to volunteer here.
Make a donation or share our fundraising ask with people in your circle. Every dollar is valued and needed to keep this work moving forward.
No matter what you do, you are an important and valued part of the #MEAction community. We are fighting for you and with you every single day.
