Pacing and Management Guides

The #MEAction Pacing Guides discuss pacing, a self-management strategy for activity useful in infection-associated chronic illnesses like ME/CFS and Long COVID, where post-exertional malaise (PEM) is a feature.  Each guide discusses PEM and ‘radical rest’, and gives examples of how to adapt vital activities, including breaking longer activities into smaller, more manageable tasks.  #MEAction created the Pacing and Management Guide early in 2020 in anticipation of those who would develop infection-associated chronic disease due to SARS-CoV-2.

Developed in conjunction with Long COVID Families, the Pediatric Pacing and Management Guide is oriented toward caregivers of kids and teens.  In addition to the pacing and management advice offered in the original, the pediatric guide offers some suggestions for school accommodations.

Developed in conjunction with the Patient-Led Research Collaborative, the Clinician’s Pacing and Management Guide is a fully-referenced resource that includes information on diagnostic coding, documenting ME/CFS and Long COVID, and other issues relevant to medical providers.
