How to Protest Virtually with the #MillionsMissing

Join the protest virtually during #MillionsMissing –  May 5th to May 12th

Use the hashtag: #MillionsMissing

Start sharing photos of the demonstrations happening around the world the week of #MillionsMissing from May 5th to 12th! Share your story. Retweet away! Remember to share the fundraiser. Keep sharing stories by others. Prepare for the finale on May 12th!

We hope to trend on May 12th and encourage your participation on this day. In order to increase our chances, especially concentrate your efforts from 12 p.m. EST to 2 p.m. EST, which is an optimal time for a majority of our followers.

Seven Ways to Protest Virtually:
  1. Show Your Face – Post a selfie on social media from your bed or home to show that you are one of the millions missing due to ME. Write what you are missing or what you are demanding from your government. You can print one of our posters, or create your own poster or sign. Post using the #MillionsMissing hashtag. Below are examples from #MillionsMissing and HHS protests.
  2. Post a photo of empty shoes. Post a photo of a pair of shoes (or several) with a note about what these shoes represent now that you are ill with ME. Post to social media using the hashtag #MillionsMissing. Anyone can participate, whether you are a patient or an ally expressing solidarity. For example: “I cannot walk to the end of my driveway.” or “My brother should be here.”
  3. Share photos from the protests.  Search for the hashtag #MillionsMissing, or reshare posts from #MEAction pages on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Find posts from the UK Facebook page and Scotland page.
  4. Update your social media profile with the #MillionsMissing filter using the #MissingMillions Twibbon.
  5. Tweet at your government leaders about the #MillionsMissing.
  6. Join a bluejeans call on the day. Homebound patients can connect with each other, share experiences and find out what is happening around the world. On-the-ground protesters can call in to connect homebound patients to their local events. (In the public rooms, they may even ask someone to speak to the crowd!)

7) Fundraise for #MEAction.  Create your own personal fundraising page for #MEAction using our peer-to-peer platform. Share your story, set your fundraising goal and directly solicit support from your family, friends and community to support the work of #MEAction. You can register as an individual fundraiser, or become a member of a city fundraiser that is already happening in your area.
