Reading matters. Let's hear it!

Listen to Marion Michell read her article.
The demise of my ability to read extensively is one of my greatest losses. I try, but pages petrify. A few paragraphs must do me now; some days a couple of lines. It’s an issue many #pwme wrestle with, and contributes to our sense of separation.
Fatigue often blurs vision, or turns text into ornament. Some of us struggle to process written language, others lie with curtains closed because they cannot bear the light. Whatever the pattern, it diminishes our ability to keep up with news reports, medical research, blog-posts, etc., and affects how we communicate with friends, family and health professionals. Confidence and competence are deeply undermined.
When we’re the slightest bit awake we ache with lust for learning, connection, a stake in the wider world; M.E. plays havoc with it all. I rely on an iPad reader to link me in a little online. The lack of enunciation, though, makes listening a chore. We need real, vibrant voices to allow more people access to the articles published here, to share summaries of new research, discussions, opinions, advocacy.

Please give audio-recording a go with the texts you submit (instructions below), or volunteer to read for someone else… This website is such a great resource – make it count for all!

Such a great idea to have the voice recordings. I would be most willing to contribute by recording speech versions of articles (to the degree time permits) to those who have trouble reading them. All the best to you and everybody else!

    1. Thanks so much, Silvia. You read Adriane Tillman’s M.E. conference summary brilliantly. A second person has now offered to record #MEAction articles. Great start!

      1. Great start, really, Marion. And a great idea. As I said: will be happy to do more!  Silvia
